The Country Code
All footpaths cross someone's land, more often than not some one who is trying to make a living from the land, so please enjoy your walk but respect the property of others and always follow the country code.
|
| | i. | Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work. |
| ii. | Guard against all risks of fire. |
| iii. | Fasten all gates. |
| iv. | Keep to public paths across farmland. |
| v. | Use gates and stiles to cross fences, hedges and walls. |
| vi. | Always take your litter home, tins and plastic bags can kill livestock as well as making the countryside untidy. |
| vii. | Help to keep all water clean, rivers, streams and ponds. |
| viii. | Protect wild life, plants and trees. |
| ix. | Take special care on country roads, especially where there is no pavement. |
| x. | Keep your dogs and children under close control, especially near livestock. |
| xi. | Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone. |
| xii. | Make no unnecessary noise. |
* - If a gate is locked and it is necessary to climb over it, always climb at the hinged end where the gate is fully supported.
